Also known as ferrous sulfate, iron sulfate has the formula Fe S04 and is used to treat iron deficiency in soils and plants. Iron sulfate can also be applied as a foliar spray. Iron sulfates dissolve readily in water making it easy to handle in most applications.
In horticulture, iron sulfate is used for treating iron chlorosis in trees, shrubs, lawns and row crops. Although not as rapid-acting as iron chelate, its effects last longer. It can be mixed with compost and mixed into to the soil to create a storehouse which can potentially last for years. We suggest checking your soil pH, since this can have an influence over the availabilty of iron to your crop.
